UNI College of Natural Sciences faculty recognized for teaching and research CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Four faculty members in the University of Northern Iowa's College of Natural Sciences (CNS) were recently recognized for their achievements in teaching and research. Dorothy Brecheisen, instructor in biology, and Thomas Kline, instructor in mathematics, received CNS Dean's Awards for Teaching Excellence in the Liberal Arts Core. John Groves, associate professor of geology, won the CNS Dean's Award for Superior Achievement in Research, and Douglas Shaw, associate professor of mathematics, was given the CNS Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence in Departmental Programs. "The individuals who received these awards have demonstrated the dedication and commitment that students in the College of Natural Sciences have come to expect," said CNS Dean Joel Haack. "They ensure that our students receive a quality undergraduate education." Recipients of the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence in the Liberal Arts Core and the Dean's Award for Superior Achievement in Research are selected by the CNS department heads, while the recipient of the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence in Departmental Programs is chosen by students majoring in programs offered by the College.
