UNI and the ILPA offer Geology of Iowa for Teachers, June 22-27

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Twenty-four teachers from around the state will be participating in Geology of Iowa for Teachers, a week-long, activity-based, short course that will be taught Sunday, June 22, through Friday, June 27, at the University of Northern Iowa and selected geological sites across Eastern Iowa.

The course will cover several activities and topics including an introduction to the geological history of Iowa, processes and principles of geology, geohydrology, surface and subsurface, geology and land use and economic geology. Participants will have the opportunity to earn two hours of graduate credit upon completion of the course. In addition, students will develop rock, mineral and fossil collections and obtain a basic proficiency in their identification.

(NAME) , a (LEVEL TAUGHT) science teacher at (SCHOOL) will be attending the workshop. About 20 of the participants will be housed in UNI residence halls for the duration of the workshop.

The Iowa Limestone Producers Association (ILPA) will cover nearly all of the workshop expenses including UNI graduate credit, lunches and dinners, textbooks and equipment, transportation in the field, instructional costs and housing.
