UNI professor receives Outstanding Professional Teaching Award

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Jan Bartlett, University of Northern Iowa associate professor of counselor education, was presented with the Outstanding Professional Teaching Award from the North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (NCACES) at the National Conference for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision on Oct. 16, in San Diego.

NCACES honors excellence in teaching in counseling, counselor education or counseling supervision programs in the North Central Region, which is comprised of the 13 states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Bartlett joined the UNI faculty in 2007 as the coordinator for the graduate programs in mental health counseling and school counseling accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Prior to UNI, she was the programs coordinator at Oklahoma State University in its APA counseling psychology and CACREP counseling programs. Bartlett has also been employed at Iowa State University and the State University of New York, Brockport. Bartlett's research interests include youth development in the modern context, green counseling and sustainable living, interface of technology on youth and families, school counseling and relational-cultural theory. She is working on a book titled "The Green Link: Nourishing Diversity and Meaningful Connections in a Challenging Time."
