Friday, March 09, 2007 UNI social work program receives reaffirmation of accreditation CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Council on Social Work Education's Commission on Accreditation voted to reaffirm accreditation for the University of Northern Iowa Master's in Social Work (MSW) and Bachelor of Arts degree programs. Both of UNI's programs were given full accreditation until 2015, the maximum time. The accreditation process takes about two years and involves writing a four-volume self-study, a site visit with four site visitors and a final review of findings, according to Thomas Keefe, department head and professor of social work. The scrutiny of the program includes: curriculum, budget, quality of the faculty, student development, relations with the community, the internship component, the library, other facilities, leadership, diversity and non-discrimination, and ongoing program evaluation of objectives and learning outcomes, including program changes. "Our graduates find positions in a wide variety of settings labeled social work or closely related settings such as child protective services or family support," Keefe said. "MSW graduates fill therapeutic or administrative roles in keeping with the program's two concentrations in advanced micro practice and social administration. These include mental health, school and medical settings." ###
