Wednesday, March 14, 2007 Small businesses offered scholarships for entrepreneurship training CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Institute for Social and Economic Development Ventures and the UNI Regional Business Center-Small Business Development Center are partnering to offer a series of eight-week training courses for start-up and existing businesses, beginning March 22.
Those starting businesses will explore the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, business-plan research, organizational structure, target marketing, understanding financials/cash flow analysis and preparing to get a loan. Those with existing businesses will evaluate their business, explore growth opportunities, make strategic decisions, review using financial tools, strengthen their products and services, develop strategies for seizing their market, chart financial performance and manage growth.
There is no charge for either course. Participants will receive a tuition scholarship as part of the Waterloo MyEntreNet System.
Each session includes classroom instruction, a discussion with experts and an opportunity to network with other area entrepreneurs. The courses use the nationally recognized Fast TracŪ program and Micro-Enterprise program created by ISED Ventures.
Class space is limited and those interested in attending are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
"Entrepreneurs seldom find time to work on their business or plan how to take their operations to the next level," said Mike Hahn, UNI RBC senior program manager. "We've found that Fast Trac and Micro Enterprise class participants often accelerate growth and develop valuable networking relationships with fellow business owners. The time they commit to this course will be a rewarding investment in their operations."
The start-up class will be held Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m., and the class for existing businesses will be held Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Both classes will take place at the UNI Regional Business Center-SBDC, located at 212 E. 4th St. in Waterloo. Interested persons should contact the UNI Regional Business Center-SBDC at (319) 236-8123 for more information.
