Friday, March 23, 2007 Price Laboratory School wins Iowa Schools of Character Award CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Price Laboratory School at the University of Northern Iowa recently won the 2007 Iowa Schools of Character (ISOC) Award, presented by Drake University's Institute for Character Development (ICD). The ISOC award recognizes schools or districts that excel in exemplifying the Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education outlined by the national Character Education Partnership (CEP), and demonstrate an outstanding character education initiative that yields positive results in student behavior, school climate and academic performance. Price Laboratory School won the award after submitting a comprehensive application outlining its character program. As the winner of the state-level awards program, Price Laboratory School's application has been advanced to the CEP as a national nominee to be considered as a finalist for the National Schools of Character Award. Winners of the National Schools of Character Award will receive a $20,000 grant to enhance their character education initiative. The CEP selected Price Laboratory School as one of the 25 finalists from a field of 133 schools from across the U.S. A two-person evaluation team will visit Price Laboratory School in April. In May, a panel of professionals in the field of character education will select the 10 National Schools of Character for 2007. Price Laboratory School will be recognized as the 2007 Iowa School of Character at the Iowa Character Awards Banquet sponsored by the Iowa Institute for Character Development on April 20 in Des Moines. ###
