UNI to offer entrepreneurship, economic development training in Mount Pleasant on Nov. 4

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Southeast Iowa community leaders, elected officials, service providers and others interested in fostering entrepreneurship in their local communities are invited to attend the University of Northern Iowa seminar, Entrepreneurship Economic Development: Turning Policy into Practice, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Howe Student Activities Center on the Iowa Wesleyan College campus in Mount Pleasant.

Attendees will learn how to create an entrepreneurship support system to identify, attract and serve locally owned businesses in their communities, plus gain an understanding of entrepreneurship trends, the four species of entrepreneurs, and critical services and resources that entrepreneurs need. A tour of and training to use MyEntre.Net, Iowa's free online community of entrepreneurs, will be provided to further engage and serve small businesses.

Participants will take away tools and resources to facilitate the development of an entrepreneurship support system, including a database of existing entrepreneurs in their county, a two-gigabyte jump drive with templates for business start up resources and administrative access to the online resources at www.MyEntre.Net.

Entrepreneurship Economic Development training will be instructed by Maureen Collins-Williams, director of the Regional Business Center (RBC) and Business Development and Incubation at UNI. Collins-Williams is a frequent national speaker on topics associated with entrepreneurship and is on faculty at the Heartland Economic Development Course and the International Economic Development Council's Economic Development Institute.

The training is sponsored by the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce, Iowa Wesleyan College and the UNI Regional Business Center/MyEntre.Net. Admission is free and includes lunch. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register contact Kiley Miller at (319) 385-3101 or Amy Kuhlers at (319) 273-4328.
