Northern Iowa Food and Farm Partnership to hold all Iowa dinner

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Northern Iowa Food and Farm Partnership is sponsoring an all Iowa meal at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13. This year's dinner is hosted by the University of Northern Iowa's Malcolm Price Lab Schools and will celebrate the Cedar Valley's accomplishments in the world of locally grown food.

Community members have been invited to present projects and accomplishments from around the Cedar Valley. Speakers and topics are listed below, alphabetically.

- Ann Franzenburg, of Pheasant Run Farms in Vinton, is a lead grower involved in a new collaborative distribution model for growers, called Cedar Valley Fresh. She will provide an overview of how this model can benefit local growers and consumers.
- Joe Olsen, of Independence, has been instrumental in building a farm-to-school chapter at his local schools and will provide updates on their accomplishments.
- Mary Shepard, of Scissortail Productions, will provide an update on new Harvest Farmers Markets in the Cedar Valley. This is an effort to extend the farmers market season and increase availability of locally produced food.
- Rob Stanley, Price Lab's food service director, and Jacque Bilyeu-Holmes will talk about Price Lab's school lunches, which feature healthy, locally produced, cooked-from-scratch food for the students and staff at the school.
- UNI Dinning Services staff will report on an all Iowa dinner they organized in early October.

The cost of this dinner is $12. For more information or to purchase tickets contact Andrea Geary at (319) 273-7883 or andrea.geary@uni.edu.

The Northern Iowa Food and Farm Partnership promotes locally grown food. In 2008, they worked with 32 institutional food buyers who bought nearly $2.4 million in local food from nearby farms and processors.
